🚀 Sick Leave FAQs: What You Need to Know!🚀 We’re in the middle of cold and flu season, with employees needing time off. Understanding sick leave can be complex, but we’ve got you covered! Here are some quick answers to your top questions:🔹 How much sick leave do employees get?Most employees are entitled to 10 days of paid sick leave each year after 6 months of continuous employment. Unused leave can accrue up to 20 days!🔹 What if an employee has no sick leave left?Employees can use annual leave or take unpaid sick leave. Employers might also advance sick leave, but be cautious about potential recovery issues.🔹 How is sick leave paid?Sick leave is paid based on the employee’s relevant daily pay or average daily pay over the past year.🔹 What if the employee is on ACC?For workplace injuries covered by ACC, you must pay at least 80% of their wages for the first week. After that, ACC covers 80% of the salary.🔹 Can you ask for proof of sickness?Once an employee has been on sick leave for three or more consecutive days, you can request proof that they are sick or injured and unable to work.🔹 Can an employee work from home while sick?Ideally, no. Employees should not be required to work while sick, though they may choose to if they feel up to it.🔹 What if an employee gets sick during annual leave?They can switch those days to sick leave if the employer agrees and proof is provided.🔹 Unlimited sick leave: Is it a good idea?It can boost morale and retention but may lead to potential abuse and extra administration.Need more details?
